Oliver!

So way back when through like February to April I read this book that I don't doubt that many of you have probably read called Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. And if you've read this book or only heard of it you probably know of the musical(Oliver!) or the 1968 movie version of the musical that won Best Picture and more at the Oscars. I LOVE musicals and the songs in Oliver! are just the catchiest tunes I've  heard as a show tune lover and they are probably just as catchy to someone who hates musicals. Except the difference is that I think the songs are catchy and fun and someone who doesn't like musicals would find them terribly annoying. While I was reading Oliver Twist back in  February the Trinity Rep theater in Providence was putting on performances of Oliver! from the end of February through the end of March. But my dad didn't think that the musical and book peaked my interest enough to take me. Getting to the actual point of this blog post luckily this weekend I was lucky enough to see Oliver! just not at Trinity Rep. On Friday the fifteenth my mom and I headed to see Oliver! at the Steps Theatre in Bellingham. The Steps Theatre is a part of Steps Off Broadway, a company that teaches kids about acting and singing and dancing and all types of theater things so the cast had kids of various ages and adults as well. But that doesn't mean it's not a show worth seeing. The theater is very small and the set was great for the amount of room they had. There were minimal changes made to the set throughout the play but they made the set work very well for every scene. I would also like to add that the acting for the characters of Nancy and Fagin was done very well and every song that Nancy sang sounded incredible.  The Steps Theatre is having one more performance of Oliver! on August 24th so if you like musicals then I recommend you check this one out on 799 South Main Street Bellingham, Massachusetts the tickets are $18 and the show starts at 7:30 PM.
This was the tiny but nice snack bar at the theater with a nice Oliver! touch with the Food Glorious Food sign.

This is the newspaper article that helped me find out about the show.

This is an old retro I guess you could say comic book version of Oliver Twist that my dad gave me from when he was a kid.
